Job Description

The Child Health Research Foundation (CHRF) is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to scientific research, advancing scientific knowledge and promoting science education among diverse audiences. CHRF is registered under the NGO Affairs Bureau and was founded in 2007 by a multidisciplinary research group, we operate with the core mission to improve child health by facilitating appropriate policy decisions on the treatment and prevention of infectious diseases, through quality research and advocacy using available resources. We conduct research in four hospitals (Dhaka Shishu Hospital, Dr. MR Khan Shishu hospital, Chittagong Ma-O-Shishu Hospital, and Kumudini Women’s Medical College) and five microbiology laboratories around the country. We collaborate with different international organizations such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, World Health Organization, Edinburgh University, Stanford University, Johns Hopkins University, Centre for Disease Control, etc.

CHRF is expanding its Genomics and Bioinformatics team and seeking skilled and motivated Bioinformaticians to join our dynamic team. As part of our team, you will analyze sequence data and generate comprehensive reports, providing actionable insights. Additionally, as a Bioinformatician, you will develop new tools to analyze sequencing data, facilitating data-informed decision-making. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including epidemiology, diagnostic, and data science teams, to solve complex problems and contribute to the organization's growth and success.

Required Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor’s (Master’s will be preferred) in Computer Science/Information Technology with work experience with biological data or, Master’s in biological science with strong background Linux and coding expertise is required.
  • Understanding of molecular biology concepts and genomics principles is required. Candidates with CS background needs to be passionate about biological principles.
  • Proficiency in Linux and programming languages commonly used in bioinformatics, such as Python, or R is mandatory.
  • Working experience with bioinformatics tools on Linux, especially large-scale machine learning applications, or genome sequence data analysis (algorithms, databases, analysis and data visualization) will get preference.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, both within a team and with other stakeholders.

Salary

Starts at BDT 45,000 (negotiable based on the experience and/or qualifications of the candidate) + festival bonuses + provident fund

Role

Bioinformaticians will be integral members of our Genomics, Bioinformatics, and Data Science team, collaborating to perform the following key responsibilities:

 

  • Develop and implement bioinformatics tools and pipelines to process, analyze, and interpret sequence datasets, including bacterial genome sequencing, viral genome sequencing, and unbiased metagenomic sequencing.
  • Continuously optimize and refine existing bioinformatics workflows to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and reproducibility.
  • Utilize a combination of biological and statistical knowledge to analyze large-scale genomic datasets and draw rigorous, actionable conclusions from biological and clinical contexts, contributing to scientific understanding and decision-making processes.
  • Stay informed about emerging tools, databases, and algorithms to continually enhance analysis capabilities and contribute to innovation within the team.
  • Document bioinformatics methods, workflows, and analysis procedures in detail, facilitating transparency and reproducibility of results.
  • Collaborate with other members of the team, including laboratory technicians, data scientists, and clinicians, to ensure efficient workflow and accurate reporting of results.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of bioinformatics aspects of research projects, collaborating with team members to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Participate in the preparation of written reports and oral presentations summarizing data analysis results, including detailed descriptions of bioinformatics methods, analysis outcomes, and the synthesis of conclusions using summary tables and figures.
