CHRF has preserved many years’ worth of Salmonella Typhi — the notorious bacteria that causes typhoid — through careful biobanking.

Biobanking plays a vital role in advancing public health research. Years of CHRF’s dedicated biobanking efforts have helped us understand and track the bacteria better. We have sequenced over a 1000 strains and the complementary clinical and genomic epidemiological studies have helped convince policy makers to introduce the Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) in Bangladesh.

Here is Parvin Akter, Lab Technologist at CHRF, diligently preserving Salmonella Typhi isolates today to support the discoveries of tomorrow. Our work must go on!
