Prof. Samir K. Saha, Executive Director of CHRF, and Prof. Dr. Md. Mahbubul Hoque, Director of Bangladesh Shishu Hospital and Institute (BSHI), visited the vaccine center at BSHI on the occasion of the rollout of the Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV).

More than two decades ago, Prof. Saha’s landmark study revealed that children under two years of age were also being infected and often severely ill, a discovery that reshaped how Bangladesh and the world understood typhoid and underscored the need for vaccination. For someone who has dedicated his career to combating typhoid, the day was a deeply emotional moment, a day when years of research, advocacy, and hope came to life.

The hospital was filled with the sounds of children — some crying from the sting of the needle, others putting on their bravest faces while their parents held their hands. Already, over 5 million children have been vaccinated through this campaign, marking a powerful beginning toward the goal of reaching 50 million across Bangladesh.

CHRF extends its heartfelt gratitude to all its collaborators, including the Bangladesh Shishu Hospital and Institute (BSHI), for their unwavering commitment to protecting children’s health and advancing the fight against typhoid.
