About CHRF

The Child health Research Foundation (CHRF) is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to scientific research, advancing scientific knowledge, and promoting science education. CHRF is registered under the NGO Affairs Bureau and was founded in 2007 with the core mission to improve child health by facilitating appropriate policy decisions on the treatment and prevention of infectious diseases, through research and advocacy. We are an interdisciplinary team composed of scientists, clinicians, epidemiologists, community health workers, statisticians, engineers, and mathematicians, working together on reducing the burden of infectious diseases in children. We conduct epidemiological studies to investigate different infectious diseases, such as typhoid fever, pneumococcal disease, and dengue fever. We also conduct large-scale genome sequencing and generate large genomic datasets on microbial pathogens circulating in Bangladesh. CHRF also offers workshops and courses catered to high school/university students, and young professionals under the “Building Scientists for Bangladesh” initiative.

We operate five microbiology laboratories across Bangladesh and collaborate with some of the most prestigious institutions worldwide, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, World Health Organization, National Institutes of Health, Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Imperial College.

CHRF is expanding its data science team and seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Scientist. We invite application for the position “Data Scientist” to join our data science team.

Job Location: Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Required Candidate Profile

  • Education: At least a Master’s degree in Statistics/Mathematics/Computer Science
  • Skills:
    • - Candidate with at least a year of experience in statistical analysis of data from observational epidemiological research studies or relevant public health projects will be given priority
    • - Proficiency in statistics, data mining and machine learning techniques
    • - Proficiency in programming languages like Stata, R or Python (intermediate level)
    • - Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to draw meaningful insights from complex datasets
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills for presenting technical findings to non-technical stakeholders
  • Language: Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential; Proficiency in written and spoken Bangla will be given preference.

Salary

Based on experience and/or qualifications of the candidate. Other Benefits: Contributory provident fund, festival allowance (Eid/Puja/Christmas and Baishakhi) and two days weekend.

Role

  • Collect, clean, and preprocess large datasets from multiple sources to ensure accuracy and readiness for analysis
  • Apply statistical analysis and data mining techniques to uncover trends, patterns, and meaningful correlations within data
  • Develop and implement machine learning algorithms and predictive models to solve various real-world problems
  • Present findings and insights to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and impactful manner, utilizing data visualization tools
  • Prepare comprehensive monthly or annual reports as required by funders
  • Monitor and evaluate model performance, making necessary adjustments to improve accuracy and reliability
  • Stay informed about the latest advancements in data science and propose innovative ideas to enhance existing processes
  • Collaborate with the data team to ensure the availability and integrity of datasets for ongoing projects
  • Contribute to the Building Scientists for Bangladesh (BSB) initiative by supporting training and mentoring efforts
  • Take on additional responsibilities as required by the team lead or management to support the organization’s goals
