About CHRF
The Child Health Research Foundation (CHRF) is a non-profit research organization in Bangladesh committed to preventing infections, saving lives, and training the next generation of scientists. We operate five laboratories across Bangladesh, with active programs in diagnostics, surveillance, and research on infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and genomics. Our team has led the country’s first SARS-CoV-2 sequencing, contributed to national vaccine policy, and continues to push the frontiers of science in low-resource settings, including pioneering single-cell genomics in Bangladesh.
We are currently hiring an Assistant Scientist/Postdoctoral Fellow (Bioinformatics) to join our growing bioinformatics team. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about data, loves solving complex biological questions using computation, and is excited to grow into a future leader of CHRF’s bioinformatics programs.
At CHRF, you’ll work at the intersection of genomics, infectious disease, and public health. In this role, you will:
- Be part of an energetic and ambitious team working on bacteria, viruses, and host-pathogen interactions
- Contribute to research that shapes national and global understanding of infectious diseases
- Take a leading role in the design, implementation, and optimization of bioinformatics pipelines
- Work across diverse projects—bacterial genomics, viral outbreaks, single-cell transcriptomics, and even human genetics
- Receive mentorship to develop your career as a computational biologist, including support for grant writing, leadership training, and collaborations
- Present at national and international conferences, and host talks by scientists you admire
- Play a key role in CHRF’s efforts to build sustainable bioinformatics capacity in Bangladesh
We are looking for someone with curiosity, adaptability, and a long-term vision for growing bioinformatics capacity in Bangladesh. You will thrive in this role if you are excited about learning, building, teaching, and leading—often at the same time. This is not a narrow or siloed job: you will be at the core of many of CHRF’s most innovative projects.
Please send the following to hr@chrfbd.org:
- Your CV (with links to the github codes)
- A 1-page cover letter describing your interest and fit for the role
- Contact information for two referees, including from your latest position
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. We strongly encourage applications from women and individuals from underrepresented backgrounds in science.
Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
At CHRF, we believe in an equal opportunity for all. We will consider all qualified applications without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender or disability status.

- PhD (or near completion) in bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, or a related discipline
- Proficiency in Python and R
- Hands-on experience running and troubleshooting pipelines on HPC servers or cloud-based platforms
- Knowledge of standard tools for sequence data analysis (e.g., genome assembly, annotation, variant calling, gene expression analysis)
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate clearly across disciplines
- proven track record in scientific writing and publication
Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with sequencing library preparation and operation of sequencing instruments
- Experience with single-cell RNA-seq data analysis

- Experience with data visualization and reporting tools
- First author (relevant) articles in respectable journals
- Experience in computational tool development
Salary will be determined based on the experience and/or qualifications of the candidate
- Analyze large-scale genomic datasets, including whole genome sequencing (WGS), metagenomics, and single-cell RNA sequencing
- Develop, implement, and maintain reproducible bioinformatics pipelines tailored to CHRF’s research needs
- Assist in maintaining and optimizing high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure
- Provide bioinformatics support to multiple teams, including pathogen genomics, single-cell analysis, and molecular diagnostics
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to training programs like Building Scientists for Bangladesh
- Work with the CHRF leadership team to help shape the strategic direction of the bioinformatics department
